The first cerebral embolic protection device in Lebanon used at HDF

On Friday, January 3, 2020, the first cerebral embolic protection device in Lebanon, the Middle East and North Africa, known as SENTINEL, was used by the HDF Cardiology Service team in Beirut. for an 83-year-old patient who underwent the TAVI procedure with excellent results and without a stroke.

The TAVI procedure, which involves replacing the aortic valve percutaneously, without the need for a open heart surgery, could displace embolic debris that may include pieces of the arterial wall, valve tissue, calcifications, as well as foreign and thrombotic materials.

Left untreated, debris can cause blockage of the cerebral arteries, which could lead to a peri-procedural stroke.

The SENTINE Brain Protection System is indicated for use as an embolic brain protection device to capture and remove dislodged thrombus/debris during TAVI procedure.
