Pediatrics
The Department of Pediatrics, founded in October 1977 by Prof. Carlo Akatchérian, provides hospitalized children with quality care in a professional, harmonious and organized atmosphere.
It consists of a pediatric intensive care unit, a neonatal intensive care unit, a chronic disease unit (oncology, chronic pediatric cases, cardiology, etc.) and a general pediatric unit (acute cases). The Department works in close collaboration with various departments, especially surgical ones.
The team at the Department consists of 18 pediatricians of different subspecialties. They supervise medical students as well as future pediatricians during their studies at the Faculty of Medicine of Saint Joseph University.
The Department covers different fields: pulmonology, cardiology, pediatric resuscitation, cardiac resuscitation, neonatal resuscitation, nephrology, endocrinology, infectiology, immunology, hematology-oncology, oncology, gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition, neurology, mother and child protection, genetics and family medicine.
The Department of Pediatrics also offers:
- psychological support for children with chronic illnesses and their families.
- psychological assessments of donors and recipients for kidney transplants.
- psychological evaluations of children who are victims or suspected victims of abuse.
- support for caregivers through discussion groups.
