Orthopedic Surgery

Created in the 1970s by one of the leading orthopedic surgeons, Professor Elie Mechaalani, the Department of Orthopedic Surgery has become a national and regional reference.

The Department, which consists of 10 surgeons, provides interdisciplinary care to patients.

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery includes an orthopedic residency program for residents of the Faculty of Medicine of the Saint Joseph University aiming to train competent and highly qualified specialists in orthopedic surgery.

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery encompasses the following specializations:

Foot, ankle, knee and hip diseases
Diseases of the spine
Hand, elbow and shoulder diseases
Muscle and joint diseases
Pediatric orthopedic surgery
Orthopedic traumatology
Orthopedic reconstructive surgery
Sports medicine

Orthopedic surgeons also treat degenerative diseases, tumors, infections and birth defects. They regularly perform microsurgery, arthroscopy, tumor surgery, and joint repair and replacement surgery. Sports surgery is ensured through interdisciplinary collaboration between upper extremity specialists, lower extremity specialists and spine surgeons.
