The Neurosurgery Department of Hôtel-Dieu de France organized its third Neurosurgery Day, in collaboration with EPSILON, dedicated this year to “deep brain stimulation”.

The event was attended by Mr. Nassib Nasr, General Director of the USJ-HDF Hospital Network, Prof. Elie Nemr, Dean of the Faculty of medicine, Prof. Georges Dabar, Director of medical affairs, and Prof. Elias Chelala, Chairman of the medical council.

Also bringing together specialists from Hôtel-Dieu de France and international experts from prestigious institutions such as Montpellier University Hospital and Yale University, the day provided a unique platform for sharing the latest advances in the field.

Prof. Ronald Moussa, Head of the Neurosurgery Department, opened the third Neurosurgery Scientific Day at Hôtel-Dieu de France: "After a break due to the tragic events, we are resuming our Neurosurgery Scientific Days at Hôtel-Dieu. This third edition is devoted to deep brain stimulation, with renowned guests. We chose this theme after a successful Parkinson's surgery on February 15. This 10-hour operation changed a patient's life, and was made possible thanks to an exceptional collaboration between our teams, the Lebanese army and the company Métronique. I would like to thank all our partners, especially Boston Scientific."

Prof. Moussa also announced a new scientific meeting, scheduled for May 30 at the new Faculty of Medicine, on the theme of “Stress management in the operating theatre”.

Mr. Nassib Nasr, for his part, warmly welcomed the guests present and emphasized: "We are delighted to host this scientific day. The video of this presentation, posted on our social networks, was a great success with our public, patients and partners, and reinforced the image of our establishment as a leader in technology and medical quality. As an administrator, although I am neither a doctor nor a surgeon, I am proud to support innovation, research and modernization within our network. We are fully committed to our teams and our patients, especially in these challenging times."

Prof. Georges Dabar pointed out that this scientific day was the fruit of a collective effort: "This day marks the culmination of a fruitful collaboration between our hospital's neurology and neurosurgery departments. As you saw in the video, this success is the fruit of the involvement of all our neurosurgeons. We are proud to have such a motivated and committed team. It took time to train our teams to perform this surgery in the best possible way. This reflects the collaborative spirit of Hôtel-Dieu, where cooperation between General Management and Medical Services has been essential to acquiring the necessary equipment and supporting our patients. I hope this day will mark a starting point for further development of these innovative techniques, which we are almost alone in practicing in the country. We hope to extend these courses to the entire Hôtel-Dieu de France network.

Prof. Elie Nemr stressed the importance of collaboration between the various departments in order to guarantee quality care for patients: "It is a great pleasure for me to be with you today at Hôtel-Dieu de France, a university hospital that embodies the resilience of our institution and of Lebanon. Despite the difficulties facing our country, this scientific day demonstrates the strength of our hospital, our doctors and our patients. This edition is devoted to deep brain stimulation, a subject that perfectly represents the medicine of the 21st century: multidisciplinary, innovative and humane. As we have seen today, this breakthrough has been made possible by collaboration between neurologists, neurosurgeons, radiologists and psychiatrists. We are proud to be able to offer cutting-edge solutions to our patients, while respecting their dignity and quality of life. I would like to thank all the teams who have contributed to this success. We hope that this day will mark the beginning of new advances in medicine and technology."

Prof. Elias Chelala expressed his admiration for the teams' commitment: "We are fortunate to have at our head a General Manager who works every day to place our institution among the best in the country. I would like to pay tribute to the exceptional dynamism of the Neurosurgery and Neurology Departments. The Neurology Department, in particular, is a model for our hospital, where team spirit, maturity and mutual respect prevail, enabling us to work in harmony without conflict. I am proud of this Department, and as Chairman of the Board, I would like to thank all the members of these teams for their loyalty and professionalism. I hope this positive spirit will continue to inspire all of us and spread throughout the hospital."

The day's topics covered the latest developments in surgical treatments for complex pathologies such as Parkinson's disease, with an emphasis on the crucial role of deep brain stimulation. Other themes were also explored, such as the applications of DBS in the treatment of pain, epilepsy and Tourette's syndrome.

Finally, the day concluded with an interactive debate session between participants, offering a unique opportunity to share experiences and perspectives. A cocktail reception was then held to continue the discussions.
