As part of the activities of Cell O7, and the launch of the Patient Blood Management program at Hôtel-Dieu de France, a free screening day for anemia and iron deficiency was organized for girls and women aged 18 to 60. The event was held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., in the Main Hall, Hall Khalil Mitri Assha.
This initiative was made possible thanks to collaboration between the Anesthesia Department, the Gynecology Department, the Family Medicine Center, the Biochemistry Laboratory and the Dietetics Department.
In addition to free blood screening, many girls and women were able to take advantage of free consultations. This action is part of a series of initiatives aimed at improving the quality of care and preventing illness through preventive and educational measures.
In addition to information and awareness-raising stands, brochures and booklets were distributed, and a questionnaire was submitted to visitors to assess their perception of the importance of monitoring their iron levels and detecting any cases of anemia early. The dietetics department was also able to emphasize the importance of diet in preventing anemia and iron deficiency, by providing recommendations on which foods to choose and which to avoid.
With the participation of almost 300 people screened, many of them identified as anemic, the day was a real success, underlining the importance of this type of initiative for public health. The dedication of the 32 volunteers, made up of residents, interns and externs, as well as the involvement of all the nursing, medical and paramedical staff, were essential to the smooth running of the day.
Hôtel-Dieu de France will continue to promote similar initiatives in the future, encouraging prevention, awareness and community well-being.
